Is there a threshold for tweeting ?

I have been on twitter for a little more than 500 days now . I have been called many things , but the one thing that most people do not fathom is why I have so many tweets ( more than 100000 ) and why do I tweet so often . At this point I would like to disclose that I do use scheduled and feed tweets . But the mix in percentage is pretty decent and I do a lot of socializing on twitter . Too many people asked me why I tweet so much and there are some “good friends” who unfollowed me for that . In this post , I will explore the topic of whether a threshold exists for tweeting and how relevant it is

First of all , I am not taking sides here . But the point is that everyone has full rights to decide what , when and how to update their micro-blog . After all , it is his / her choice . Next is the fact that everyone has a personality and character and both these come across as the content in their twitter stream .If you look at the stream of really popular tweeps like @Flipbooks @RuhaniRabin and @TechZader you will see that they strive to get you informed about stuff as and when it happens . There are a lot of things that happen and hence there are a lot of tweets .But each one of them is really useful and worth a look . Now their tweets are really useful and they all are followed heavily and in the case of @Flipbooks , he is a brand on twitter now . So the frequency and number of tweets is a plus in their case , I follow them and derive a lot of value from their tweets .

The flip side of the coin is that there a other tweeps who are on twitter to chat / converse with folks and build a small circle of friends . They have a valid mission and hence abstain from auto tweeting , tweeting a lot and all that . Fair enough , twitter is like diabetes , unique to every patient . They log on and tweet their rants and thoughts and engage with their friends on twitter and that is that for them . Pretty good and sensible too .

So where is the problem ? The problem arises when the tweeps in the second category start thinking and even try judging the tweeps that are not like them , that is when they start dissing and complaining . The followers hear all this and sometimes they do get swayed by those thoughts and think that people who tweet often and a lot are not worth following . And that is the point where I get irked . I mean , no one complains about people who tweet less , why the reverse ? Isn’t that getting a bit too biased ?

What is the problem , there are tools like Tweetdeck that allow you to create groups and let you decide what you want to see and how / where you see it . So there is no big deal in crying about it . Also , it takes a a lot of effort to find links that are useful , we need to understand and acknowledge that . And yes , if you don’t like a particular style , remember that there are folks who might not like yours .

In conclusion , Is there a threshold to tweet ? I say that it exists ,, but varies from person to person based on their twitter strategy . One man’s nectar is another’s poison . But we need to learn to use and leverage twitter as the stupendously rich source of information that it is .
