When am I good on twitter ? (by @v_shakthi)

First up , a huge sorry for the recent slow frequency of posts . It was not intentional , let us just say that life in its grand scheme played a few pranks on me and I wasn’t laughing . I run three blogs and all of them are crying out for attention now . With that done , let me get to the point of this post . My presence on twitter is now long enough that at least a few tweeps in India know me . And I recently changed from @sakthidharan to @v_shakthi on twitter .I have a lot of friends on Twitter , 4500+ now . My tweet policy is to share links and to have conversations too . I also tweet quotes and jokes and the like . I am a liberal user of Twitterfeed , but I read all my links that get posted. Here lies the problem , apparently it is pissing off a few folks who follow me . Then the question , what is good on twitter ? and When am I good ? Let us try and answer that in this post

Twitter as I understand it is very different from IM , it is a micro-blogging platform which for the time being is free (I do pray that it stays that way , but then I also pray that Twitter makes money , let’s leave that to the almighty ! ) . So as my micro-blog , what should it contain ? It could contain many things , and it is not entirely wrong if I choose to have my micro-blog reflect Breaking News and Tech stuff that I believe define what I like and want to share . Right ?

Now the next part , after deciding what to share , I also have the liberty to choose how to share it , that is again an extension of what I am and want to be seen as on-line . Essentially , as long as I am sure about what I am sharing , how I share it is immaterial . So here is what I did . I first looked around the net and found out really trustworthy and reputed sources of Information in the areas that I wanted to tweet about . Mind you , this is a long and persistent exercise . It takes a lot of effort to do that . Once I had that list , I used Twitterfeed to automate scheduled tweets whenever new information was there in these places . Some of them are National topics of Interest and some of them are Technical and some other trivia as well . Then I sit down and calculate the frequency and number of updates vis-a-vis the twitter limits so that I don’t get kicked out of twitter . And here again I have to account for my conversations with friends and buffer to RT great stuff that I see on my time-line

There is a catch here , the catch is that the blogs/sites that I identify are updated in spurts . Let me explain , when there are a lot of breaking news items , they are more frequent , when there is some heavy tech updates in the net , they are more and so on . But remember , all this is well within the twitter limits . It is not that I don’t tweet , I do too and I reply to all mesgs addressed to me . So I am not a bot . Heh ! Bots don’t blog :)

Now my friends , tell me , is the above methodology wrong ? Am I bad on twitter , if I am , when am I good on twitter ?

    Hi Shakthi,
I was trying to reach u about your query about Japanese culture via @pprakash; your tweets keep coming in via twitterfeed (and web), but u don’t respond ?!! so, r u a bot ? no offence, ok, the comment should be be read with your blog content, ok; bye

  9. Hi Shakti,
I have been following you for quite some time now but haven’t interacted on a one to one basis, I did mention you in a couple of Tweets requesting @KhushiKiDuniya for a Google Wave Invite though..

Not sure if you have been following me

Just trying to be Honest as I myself can understand the importance of True feedbacks, At times The frequent Updates do make People uncomfortable. Thats a general case not pointing to you.

your tweets in particular created concern in my mind only once… But I chose to wait. I wouldn’t really un-follow anyone for this Reason, because you always have the option to Follow but No Follow..

Now I enjoy your Tweets and find them useful, funny, stress busters etc..

I have had this feeling myself and have even lost followers including a few whom I care about.. because of a flood of Updates in my Timeline..

I also made a similar post yesterday asking my Friends to provide feedback to my Social Media Activities…
Do Comment if you have any point…

Considering everything, I do feel that why not use the Service for what they are meant to be???

But Of-course I also need to take care of my Friends’ Interest and so perhaps I will take measures to achieve that…

you are doing a great job on twitter, but the sad part is sometimes my stream is filled with others twitterfeed :)
its not a bad thing but pls use other alternatives which provide a time gap while using twitter in auto pilot :)
    suggestion only! :)

  11. Loved the article…

First off how you tweet is your business. As long as you are not spamming or always using a service to send tweets its not a big deal. The important thing is you build relationships.

The true Twitter Friends as I deem them will still follow and not complain. It is impossible to be on Twitter 24/7. Life happens. I recently lost touch on Twitter because of my new business and also because of a stalker. So I understand how life can throw you punches.

I am just now trying to reconnect and get back up to speed with my networking.
Hope these words helped my friend. Thanks for the follow on twitter!!!

    @teamwildjoker :D

Also you can follow me on my other accounts @thewildjoker and @thewildjoker2 … bear with me as i learn to use multiple accounts 1 for personal 2 for business. Trying to find the balance is so hard!!!
