Twitter Rankings : Are they worth it ?

I am going to pick on my pet peeve today . Twitter Rankings in vogue now . Twitter is big and everyone wants in on it . This coming has touched very netizen in some way or the other . Now that everyone is tweeting , celebrities and mere mortals alike , what is exciting to find out ? Where do I stand in the Twitterverse . That is something that everyone wants to know and potentially use to their advantage in any possible way . So enter the Twitter Ranks . A neat little way of finding out where you stand .

The ranking systems and scripts are here and here to stay . But are they worth it ? Well , I think not . Why ? Twitter is about being yourself and expressing that in 140 characters . That is too much of an art to be measured in numbers . And there are other issues too . Most of the rankings I have seen , they rarely change . What good is a ranking if it is static ? Then it becomes a point of time snapshot . And who are on top ? That is the really funny part . We have Ashton , Oprah and CNN , all three of them do not even know who is following them and why ! What value do they add to their followers ? Close to nothing . Then there is the Ellen Show , that one is being used by wannabes to get pple to tweet them on to the show as guests !

Rankings are invariably based on numbers and i think that is not the right way to rank a tweep . So here I am eagerly looking forward to a fair and fluid twitter ranking system that makes sense .
