In 2006 , I was told by a friend that there was a cool neat way to get noticed on the internet , it was called blogging . I thought and thought and thought and decided that I cannot think anymore , and hence I will blog . Those days I did not have my own domain . I was not savvy to learn wordpress , hence I started on blogger . Initially , I was the only reader of my blog . And it would have been that way if not for a few colleagues in office who started reading it just for fun . I am ever grateful to those souls , they still are readers to my RSS feeds . But that is not what this post is about . It is about an entertaining feature that every blogger lives with … comments !!
There are really people who write comments and then there are the entertaining comments that are really written by nobody .But mind you , these are extremely entertaining . Don’t believe me , start a blog and see . The first time I got more than 20 comments on the same day , I felt like a king ! I went into the admin dashboard and tried to check them out , guess what ? It was 20 versions of herbal Viagra on sale at a cheap price !! Man, what a let down ! the audacity of the jokers who thought I needed that by any stretch of imagination ! Hmmph !! I felt like my privacy had been invaded !
Next thing I did was to filter “Viagra” and “performance” in comments ! Then I was attacked by a wave of puzzling comments! Puzzling because they had only “?” everywhere , the sender , the content and even the IP address !! What a quizzical one ! Aah ! The proverbial question of life facing me on my blog ! I wise up to that and get smarter .
Next wave is a series of guys who say that they have me in their rss reader , but strangely all their sites are promoting a “good time in Russia” , ummm , not that I am against it , but my blog is for the family audience . So no-no . Strangely there was a comment one day saying ‘ I don’t agree with you , do you have more info ?” , I thought , ah an intellectual reader , but then in the next 10 minutes I got the same from 10 other ids and realized that it was spam . Ah , woe is me ! .
There is a category that needs special mention though , it is the comments that have about 2 pages of non-sequential and meaningless text interspersed with random links to galleries of bolly/hollywood beauties in their birthday suits ! That might have taken a lot of coding and a lot of coffee . But the point is , what purpose does this serve other than engage and entertain me ? Hmm , God does exist and works in strange ways to keep me entertained and my blog also entertaining !
On the more serious side , I thank every single person who commented on my blog and request them to keep doing it . That is bread for my blog and me on the internet .
