Me on Twitter

My entry into twitter was not an accident and was driven more by need to explore the next big thing that everyone was into .So I logged on to twitter and due to the huge unprecedented popularity of my name on the web , I had to drop a “h” and become sakthidharan on twitter . As it is my name is funny to folks from the west and this made it much more hilarious , and that got me my first 50 followers !! Back then , I had no idea of the reach and power of twitter and did something funny . I used to tweet about my daily routine and the movies I was watching and other insipid things like that . I lost 45 of my first 50 followers !! Over a coffee conversation with a few friends I realized the true reach of twitter and how I could use it to promote my blog , my beliefs and generally me in a huge way that was not possible before . Then I woke up !

After waking up , I set about the task of being a responsible Twittizen . Then I thought out my plan and executed it . I wanted to make my tweets readable and then enjoyable in that order . I also wanted to drive traffic to my blog as that definitely will not hurt at all ! Then I realized that current topics and issues that constitute what is popularly called breaking news are the things that rule the roost on twitter . Hence I started becoming news aware and keeping myself posted . Roughly 8 out of my ten tweets would be current affairs . One would be a funny quip and one about my blog . That is the distribution that I follow to the day .

Then the next big learning , follow the right people , people like @cheth , @sanjeevsarma @meerasapra , they have added value to my twitter existence , they talk sense and that helps , I get more credibility when I re-tweet them or reply to them . I also connected to @kadambariyer @keeda from the Indian twitter verse .They say sensible things and drive sensible conversations . Meera is a brilliant cartoonist and has since then featured on my blog also . See ! I benefit and so does my blog ! I need to mention thanks here to everyone of them . Then the global connects happened and I quickly crossed a 1000 followers . That is very good ! This means that if I post a link to my blog in a tweet , I have at least a 250 hits guaranteed .

I have learnt a lot from Twitter , from what is happening in the US to how easy it is to create a cartoon on my blog . Thank you my friends on Twitter ! A very special thanks to Meera . Most of my first tweets are looking for her. She has become a very good twiend !!

Now-a-days , my twitter experience is summarized in one sentence – ” I am lovin it !! “. BTW , do check me out on Twitter .
